Our Pastor
Bishop Floyd D. Collins, Sr. is the senior pastor of the Stanton Place Church of God of Prophecy in High Point, NC. He is the son of the late Bishop W. C. and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Collins. A native of Scotland County, NC, he is the ninth sibling of ten children born to this union. It was in Scotland County where Bishop Collins received his formative years of education, attending grade school and later graduating from Laurinburg Normal and Industrial Institute. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1958. While serving in Germany, he furthered his studies at the University of Maryland Extension School of Business. Bishop Collins is also a graduate of Bible Training Institute of the Church of God of Prophecy, Cleveland, TN where he was elected president of his graduating class. He has also received continuing education certifications from Tomlinson College and from Fuller Bible Institute.
Upon completion of his tour of duty in the U.S. Army, Bishop Collins was awarded an honorable discharge from active duty, subsequently serving two years in inactive reserve. He returned to High Point, NC where he met and later married Barbara Jean Jones. Having experienced a definite spiritual encounter with God and having accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of his life and as Head of the Church, Bishop Collins joined the Church of God of Prophecy in 1961. With this affiliation, he faithfully served in several capacities within the local church. He accepted the call of God upon his life to the ministry of preaching in 1968. Bishop Collins was appointed in 1969 to his first pastorate at the Church of God of Prophecy in Concord, NC. In 1970 he was appointed to the church in Siler City, NC, where he served as pastor for four years. Then in 1974, he was appointed to pastor his home church, formerly located on Amos Street in High Point, NC. Under his leadership, in 1980 a new edifice was purchased on Stanton Place and the church relocated to its current facility. Not long after, in 1983 the first parsonage was purchased and over subsequent years, the lots adjacent to the church were acquired as well. The heart of Bishop Collins is seen quite clearly in the love that he has for his church, his members, and his sons in the ministry that have emerged under his tutelage. To this established legacy, 2014 marks the notable milestone of 40 years in pastoral ministry at the Stanton Place Church of God of Prophecy.
Bishop Collins is one of the most recognized and respected senior bishops in the Church of God of Prophecy, with numerous accolades and accomplishments to his credit. Our 1st Lady
Lady Barbara Jones Collins is the daughter of the late Deacon James C. and the late Maggie Scotton Jones. She is the dedicated wife of Bishop F.D. Collins, the loving mother of five children, and proud Nana to six grandchildren. Sister Collins has served in many capacities of ministry alongside her husband in the churches he has pastored and has held various offices and appointments over the years. She previously served as a Pastoral Care Leader, Devotional Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Talk and Prayer Leader (TAP), and for 22 years as a teacher and staff member at the Church of God of Prophecy Ladies Retreats at both the state and regional levels. She was a convention clerk and was later appointed Chief Clerk of the North Carolina State Convention, serving in that capacity for a number of years. At present, she serves as the Education Director, Sunday Morning Prayer Coordinator, Chairwoman of the Deaconess Board, and as the Special Events Coordinator, organizing annual church events such as the Holiday Banquet and the Sunday School Picnic.
In 1979, Sister Collins returned to school determined to complete the education she had begun prior to marriage and children. She graduated in 1982 with an Associate degree in Applied Science in General Education from Guilford Technical Institute. She was awarded the Curriculum Award in General Education and was also listed in Who’s Who in America, having graduated with a 3.8 grade point average. Sister Collins continued her education, enrolling in Shaw University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science in 1990. Having been on the Dean’s List, she was selected among 1000 applicants to receive a scholarship from North Carolina Public Instruction to return to school for certification to teach special education. She furthered her studies by entering the master’s program at North Carolina A&T State University. Having returned to undergraduate school at the age of 39, her philosophy has always been, “You’re never too old to learn.”
Sister Collins retired from the Guilford County School System after 26 years of employment, where she had the opportunity to positively impact the lives of many young children. She has also worked in the Model City Program, Guilford County Head Start, Guilford County Health Department, and at the City of High Point Dial-A-Lift as a member of the development team that established the transportation program for the elderly and handicapped.
Sister Collins loves children and is always encouraging them to set higher goals for themselves and work to achieve their dreams. Her passion is for Christ and His church and she is constantly seeking God’s direction for creative ideas and innovative methods that will enhance the Kingdom and encourage His people to become diligent workers for Him. She has prayed and counseled thousands of people over the many years of her Christian walk, having been saved at an early age. Sister Collins has a burden for young souls and continually ministers to the youth, leading them to Christ. This has been a focal point throughout her ministry as she has worked diligently beside her husband. She is thankful that God has enabled her to work, rear children, attend school, be faithful to the church, be a community advocate, be a school volunteer, and maintain a household while persistently striving to be the wife, mother, grandmother, church member, First Lady, and most of all the Christian that God has called her to be. Her desire is to please God and in the end hear Him say, “Well done thy good and faithful servant.”
